# Project aimed to help to resolve problem of low standards of living in rural areas that derives from small salaries for traditional villagers' work and low level of development of small and medium business in those areas in particular of agritourism.

The goal of the project is to reinforce modernization and implementing European standards in Moldavian villages particularly in Moldavian agritourism facilities. In long-term perspective it must lead to enhancing the quality of life of Moldavian villagers thanks to boosting and promotion agritourism as well helping with professional advices in opening new and managing existing agritourism objects by experts, who already have experience in that field. That would lead to greater interest in nonagricultural activity in countryside, rise in tourist flow and enhancing financial situation of agritourism facilities, local authorities and village inhabitants.

Important aspect is the need to bring the attention of agro consultants to share, as well, their knowledge about gaining alternative and additional sources of revenue for farmers and villagers. We must notice that the level of services provided by agro consultants in the field of nonagricultural activities is still insufficient. Consultants need support in the matter of formalities concerning creating agritourism companies and benefits for farmers and local communities that it will bring to them. The chosen form of support is strongly connected with real economic situation: maximum possible final goals can be achieved through relatively low cost (soft, non-investment project). Project fits in the goals of global education understood as development in Moldavian countryside communities' consciousness and feeling of responsibility for themselves, their local communities, for economic and social future of next generations - through wise and non-extortionate exploitation of natural resources.

The main and specific goals of project correspond to sphere of support for Moldova defined in competition rules of Polish aid for development program in 2015: "Agriculture and development of rural areas”, namely: activities aimed at a) development of potential of small and medium enterprises, rural communities and agro consult services”.

Moldova is mainly agricultural country – nearly 60% of inhabitants leave in rural areas. Productivity in agriculture in Moldova is relatively low. According to the data of National Moldavian statistic's office, nonagricultural revenue of rural inhabitants is only 7,2% (in 2013).

Moldova has a great potential for development of nonagricultural activities, including tourism in rural areas. For now that potential isn't fully used. According to the statistic, in 2013 in whole Moldova were only 94 hotels and motels, 19 agritourist farms, 6 hostels, 62 guest houses. From 2004 to 2014 the quantity of agritourist farms raised to 19 from 9, but still this dynamics is weak.

Other diagnosed problems related to nonagricultural activities in Moldova are:

•      Low consciousness among businessman and farmers about other than agriculture practice;

•      Unsatisfactory level of quality of tourism and agritourism services and little awareness about trends in tourism industry;

•      Underinvestment of Moldavian village related to infrastructure (sewage, electrification, etc.) and gaps in know-how sphere;

•      Insufficient information about places of interest in rural areas.

In this context concentration on development of nonagricultural activities in rural areas, namely agritourism, will create possibility of economic diversification, creation of new workplaces and in long-term perspective to increase revenue for rural inhabitants and will allow to ensure lasting improvement of economic development.

Undertaken activity will help to increase attractiveness and compatibility of business companies in rural areas in Moldova. This is clearly underlined in new strategy of development of rural areas and agriculture in Moldova for 2014-2020 years, where Priority №3 is enhancing the standards of living of village inhabitants, including through Action 3.2.: „Raising nonagricultural employment and possibility to boost revenues of rural inhabitants. Mandatory support initiatives aimed at creating jobs in nonagricultural sphere in rural areas. That can be in the form of support, setting up and development agro consult services or nonagricultural micro enterprise oriented on creation products and services as well helping already created small and medium companies in order to strengthen their business capabilities”.

Project is a continuation and expansion of previously realized projects as „Start your business in village. Non-farm economic activity for enhancing the quality of life of Ukrainian rural inhabitants (agritourism)” (MFA of Poland 77/2011). Thanks to the project 127 participants increased their knowledge and improved skills through taking part in training courses and study visits, local Ukrainian communities increased their activities for enhancing the level of life in rural areas through agritourism programs and has been published a publication with total circulation 1200 copies.
